Leos Clubs

Leo Clubs are part of the Lions International World Wide Service Organisation but are the official Youth Programme of Lions. Beginning in 1957, but becoming established internationally in 1968, Leos follow the same principal aims and objects.

PURPOSE OF A LEO CLUB

To promote service activities among the youth of the community, which will develop the individual qualities of Leadership, Experience and Opportunity.

OBJECTS OF A LEO CLUB

· To provide the youth of the world an opportunity for development and a contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.
· To stimulate among its members acceptance of high ethical standards.
· To develop leadership.
· To provide experience through service to the community.
· To provide an opportunity to promote International understanding.

Leo Clubs are formed and operated under the guidance of a Lions Club and consist of young people from early teens to late twenties. Most clubs are of a fairly similar age with both male and female members. A suggested formation size is not less than 15 members. They have their own emblem, each club is autonomous and elects its own officers. However, the Lions efforts do not stop there, a Leo Advisor must be appointed to ensure a close liaison between clubs. Leo Clubs throughout the world, but especially in Britain and Ireland, have contributed in many ways to raise the funds required for the purchase of life saving equipment for hospitals, devices for the disabled and many forms of help to those less fortunate in their communities. But Leos are not just about raising charity money and community service. Belonging to a Leo Club is also about making new
friends, having responsible fun with a purpose and the satisfaction derived from taking part in helping others. Fellowship and social events play a big part in Leo activities.
